What does Denice really do?
My job at UCM is to search for items for our users that we do not own at UCM. I ask to borrow material from other UC Library Interlibrary Loan units, Cal-State Interlibrary Loan units, Nation Wide Interlibrary Loan units and World Wide Interlibrary Loan units. I talk with people all over the world trying to get the items you need to do your research.
My other job is to loan our material to other Interlibrary Loan units. Just the reverse of the borrowing part.
I also help in the AskALibrarian service. An online reference program answering questions from a wide audience of users. We field and answer questions from "Can you tell the people on the fourth floor of the library to be quiet?", to "Can you tell me the traction rate of animals in the third world?"
My favorite part of my job is searching for weird or obscure monographs or articles, especially in the hard sciences.
I also enjoy doing one-on-one tutorials with our users to help them understand how to use our system to submit interlibrary loan requests.
